7 Ways to Create Your Custom Templates on Google Slides

As one of the most popular tools for presentation, Google Slides templates offer various default options to help you get started with the session. However, if you want to step up to the next level, there’s actually a way to create and customize your own templates so that they will be more on point and presentable. Follow seven simple steps below for more!

  • Begin with a New Presentation Slide

To customize your own template on Google Slides, you need to work with a blank presentation. First things first, click on the New button on the top left of the screen and then choose Google Slides from the dropdown menu.

Your new presentation slide will immediately appear with the default themes. Before proceeding to the next step, make sure to rename the slide first by clicking on the upper left of the screen and typing a new title of your choice.

  • Create a Master Slide

The next important step when creating Google Slides templates is customizing the master slide. This feature will help you present various elements on the slides of your presentation. In other words, any element you add and modify in the Master slide will automatically appear on the slides. 

You can easily find the master slide option from the main menu of Google Slides. Simply select Slide and then click on Edit Master to open it. From this point, all you have to do is make some changes to several elements of a presentation slide, from fonts to colors.

  • Modify the Font and Custom Text

Fonts and texts are among the essential aspects that you need to give an outstanding presentation session. Therefore, their modification should be taken into account when creating a presentation template on your own.

Click the text placeholder of the master slide to begin with this process. You will find that the default text is set to Arial, but you are free to change it to your preferred font. Adjust the font size if you need it, and do the same step for each placeholder on the slide. Once you’re done, you can also add some custom text that goes well with the theme of your presentation.

  • Add Graphic Elements

Now comes an interesting part about customizing Google Slides templates. You get a chance to add some graphic elements to each slide, whether it is your company logo or an image that supports your presentation’s topic. 

To add graphic elements from the master slide, simply click the icon of Insert Image on the toolbar. After the dialog box opens, choose whether you want to upload an image or drag it from your computer desktop. Once the graphic element is uploaded, you can adjust its position on the slides. 

  • Change Shape Colors

Another way to level up your presentation slides is by changing shape colors. Selecting particular colors for the shapes are likely to grab more attention from your audiences. 

To recolor an object on your slides, just select the object and click the icon of Fill Color on the menu bar. A wide range of colors—from solid to gradient—will be available in this option. You have to choose and adjust one particular shade that you like or browse for more options by selecting the Customize section.

  • Customize Master Layouts

The steps of customizing your own Google Slides templates are now closer to the end. Once you’re done with the master slide, it’s time for you to include some master layouts in the presentation slides.

Create all master layouts that you need by adding, removing, or changing them as needed using the tools in the master slide. After you have finished with this step, your blank presentation slides will turn into new templates consisting of a customized master slide and master layouts.

  • Use Your New Google Slides Templates

Once everything’s ready, the last step you need is to use the template in the real presentation. However, before you do, make sure to copy the new template first by selecting File, then “Make a copy” option. Don’t forget to rename the file on your computer so that the previous template won’t be replaced. Now, you are free to adjust the position or order of your new templates until they can represent what you are going to deliver in a presentation session.
