A company or brand uses a logo to show people the brand’s identity. The design of a logo sometimes is crucial for the success of a brand. A logo often has meanings, and sports logos are not an exception.
Why is Racing Considered as Sports?
Some people might argue that motorsports or auto racing is not a sport since it does not involve physical activities. The fact is that racing drivers deal with physical punishment like g-force and endurance when they drive very fast for a long time.
Auto racing is a type of sports competition that has many enthusiasts around the world. The most popular auto racing competitions are F1, MotoGP, and NASCAR. They can not be popular without logos to show their identities.
F1 Logo
Probably the most popular auto racing in the world, F1 or Formula One was started in 1959. The Formula One logo has changed three times since its first logo. The most iconic one is the logo used from 1993 until 2018.
The logo has become the most iconic since it has a hidden ‘1’ formed by a black ‘F’ and a red graphic that symbolizes speed. It is also iconic because the logo is used in arguably the most fan-favorite eras of Formula One.
The current logo is italicized ‘F’ and ‘1’ that look like some parts of a race track. The logo seems fast and full of energy combined with the bright red color, perfectly reflecting the brand. The logo also looks futuristic and straightforward, fitting the modern digital era.
MotoGP Logo
MotoGP is the highest class and most popular two-wheeled motorsports. The current logo of MotoGP is the smoother version of the logo before, which has various sized black rhombuses with the italicized word ‘motogp’. The rhombuses make the logo look like a start line or a checkered flag about racing.
For the current logo, some edges of the rhombuses are rounded to match the sleeker ‘MotoGP’ word. The changes make the logo look more modern and aerodynamic, reflecting how fast the racing bikes are.
Other than the sleeker font style, the color of the word ‘MotoGP’ is also changed into all soft red compared to the previous logo with dull red for the ‘moto’ part and black for the ‘GP’ part. The distinction in the current logo is that ‘moto’ uses lowercase while ‘GP’ uses uppercase, although the font size is the same.
NASCAR Logo
NASCAR is the acronym for National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing. Unlike F1 and MotoGP, this kind of motorsport is an American competition. The modern logo of NASCAR is a combination of the word ‘NASCAR’ with colorful bars.
From 1976 until 2016, the NASCAR logo was a bold italicized white ‘NASCAR’ word with a background in yellow, red, purple, and blue bars. The yellow part is separated from the word and divided into five parts which are then followed by a small piece of the red part. The other three colors are not separated from the word.
There are some slight changes from the previous logo for the current logo. The word ‘NASCAR’ is black with slight modifications to the font style. The colorful bars, without purple, are separated to the left side of the word, with yellow and red bars each divided into two parts followed by one part of blue.
Although the logo has been updated, the previous logo is still used for some occasions. Both logos represent the fastness and powerfulness of NASCAR with the bold italicized word and the divided bars. The bars’ colors might show the beauties of the competing stock cars.
Adding Meaning to A Logo
Other than showing a brand’s identity and character, giving meaning to a brand’s logo can also make the logo more aesthetic. We can take some examples from the three motorsports logos.
The three logos have similar italicized styles that show the brands’ fast characteristics. If they did not use the style, the logos were probably not as beautiful as they are. Other meaningful parts like shapes and colors also show the brands’ characters and make the logos prettier.
Like the three motorsports logos, you can give meaning to your logos through the shapes and font styles of the logo. Those logos of F1, MotoGP, and NASCAR are some examples of famous logos with meanings that you can take for some inspiration.
